Project Summary

Nasland Engineering provided civil engineering design services and construction support services for a nearly 1-mile section of Old Otay Mesa Road in the City of San Diego. The existing roadway was narrow, without adequate room for pedestrians and meanders along a steep hillside. Recent adjacent developments included residential subdivisions and a brand new high school, contributing to a high number of children and adults who traversed the roadway on a narrow dirt path along the side of the road. This created a very dangerous situation for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists alike. This project improved safety, traffic flow and accessibility along this old section of roadway by realigning the street, providing sidewalks, bike lanes, utilities and water quality improvements. With these improvements, a safer, more efficient route was provided for pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as motorists.
